Halal Trace
Terms of Use

Halal Trace assesses ingredients. It is not a religious authority, its verdicts are not fatwas, and it is not a substitute for reading the packaging or asking a scholar you trust.
1. Who you're dealing with
The Halal Trace app is provided by A2I Studio AB, org. nr 559599-0911, Larsbodavägen 53, 123 41 Farsta, Sweden ("we", "us"). By installing or using the app you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, don't use the app.
2. What the app is
Halal Trace reads a product's barcode or ingredients label and assesses the ingredients against a curated knowledge base and a set of rules, producing a halal, haram or doubtful verdict together with the reasons behind it.
It is an aid to your own judgement, not a certification. We do not certify products, we are not affiliated with any certification body, and a verdict is not a religious ruling. Where scholars differ on an ingredient, the app's strictness setting takes a position — you choose which.
3. Accuracy, and its limits
We work hard to get this right, but we cannot guarantee that any verdict is correct or current. In particular:
- Product data comes from Open Food Facts and USDA FoodData Central, which are maintained by their communities and by third parties, and can be incomplete, wrong or out of date.
- Manufacturers reformulate products without changing the barcode.
- Text recognition on a photographed label can miss or misread words, especially on curved or glossy packaging.
- Halal labels shown from the product database are contributed by the public, are not verified by us, and never change the verdict.
Always read the packaging yourself before consuming or purchasing a product, and consult a qualified scholar for a ruling. If you have a food allergy, do not rely on this app: allergen information here is informational only and may be incomplete.
4. Your licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, resell, or redistribute the app or its knowledge base, or use automated means to extract data from it in bulk, except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
5. Pro
Some features require a one-time in-app purchase ("Pro"). It is sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and those stores handle payment, tax and refunds under their own terms — we never see your payment details. Pro is tied to the store account you bought it with and can be restored on your other devices with that account.
Free use is subject to a daily scan limit. We may change what Pro includes or what the free tier allows for future releases, but we will not remove access to a feature you have already paid for.
6. Acceptable use
Don't use the app to break the law, don't attempt to overload or disrupt the service, and don't attempt to circumvent its usage limits or submit deliberately falsified data to the shared verdict cache. We may restrict access where we reasonably believe this is happening.
7. Third-party data and services
Product data from Open Food Facts is made available under the Open Database License, and is used subject to that licence. FoodData Central data is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. We are not responsible for those services or their content.
8. No warranty, and liability
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the extent the law allows. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any verdict is accurate.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for any decision you make in reliance on a verdict. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or your mandatory rights as a consumer under Swedish and EU consumer law, which are unaffected by these terms.
9. Changes and termination
We may update these terms; the date at the top will change and material changes will be noted in the app. You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or discontinue the service, or any part of it, with reasonable notice where practicable.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by Swedish law. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings in the courts there. EU consumers can also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.
